Cool weather cruise control

Hello my loves,

Mmmmm yes, it’s really winter now! Crisp, chilly mornings lead to bright blue days, and nature turns inward and slumbers. And do you know what winter is the perfect time for? Giving yourself permission to do mother f-ing nothing. To make time for slowness, and embrace it. To hunker down, snuggle up, and sink inTo flick the switch to cruise control, and ride smooth and slow.

This is something that as a society we are wholly geared against. The dangling carrot of an upward trajectory is something our culture imprints on us from birth, and in stretches of our lives when not much is happening, it’s tempting to feel like you’ve failed, like life is passing you by and you’ve somehow missed a crucial turn. But no. This is not so. In the quiet, soft stillness is where the magic lies. In the hush of a gentle pace, ideas and dreams have space to form. Without rest there can be no creation, so make the time. Take the time. Do whatever it is that you like. Banish the guilt, put on the jug, pull up the rug and sink in. Ponder and integrate and dream. Bake a little maybe, or bathe, or read. Draw, walk or journal. Indulge in whatever form of delicious slowness it is that speaks to you. And enjoy it. Stretch out like a sleek and sultry panther, and luxuriate in it. Because slowness doesn’t last forever. When the spark of creation ignites, you’ll be grateful for the energy you’ve gifted yourself, by knowing when to rest.

And so my darlings, it may come as no surprise that a restful weekend is on the cards for me. Knitting, sitting, cooking and eating, and that is probably about it. I can’t think of anything more perfect. Until next week my loves 💙.

Love, Rachel xxx
