Out and proud

Hello my loves,

It’s spring, and the ladies of Newtown have shed their winter coats, revealing all their charms as they sashay down the king of streets. If you’re familiar with Newtown, you’ll be aware that pretty much anything goes - the wild, wonderful and strange are all very, very welcome here. But this year I’ve noticed something else too. As the weather warms up and the layers come off, the diversity of body shapes that are proudly on show is making my heart absolutely sing. Wide, slim, round, jiggly, big, small and medium, these ladies are out in their spring best, and they have got it going on. There’s crop tops and short shorts and flippy skirts and spaghetti straps and no-bras and tummy-bumps as far as the eye can see, and it is glorious! These ladies are owning what they have, and showing it right off, and every single one of them looks incredible. I have to hold myself back from fist-pumping the air as I stroll.

I don’t know if I’m just noticing it more these days, or if there really is a shift happening. Could it be too much to hope for that we really are starting to accept ourselves just that little bit more for who we are? That we’re realising more and more that we’re allowed to present ourselves in whatever way we like, whether that's short shorts or a volume of fabric or anything in between? I don't know what's driving it, but I do know that it's giving me a daily thrill to see ladies of every-which kind out and proud in their spring finery, shoulders back and fronts forward, reminding me that I don’t have to be perfect: I just have to be me.

And so my loves, I invite you to sashay with me into this fine spring weekend. I’m spending it with very dear friends who I have not seen for far too long, and I absolutely cannot wait. Whatever the weekend holds for you, I wish you a spring in your step and a glint in your eye as you wend your way through it 💛.

Love, Rachel xxx
